Sheepskin Rugs are generally very easy to look after, infact you really do not have to do anything with them and they will still last for many years. But if you want to keep them looking like new then the following tips will help.
Strong direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent UV from damaging the natural fibres avoid fading. Storage in damp or wet conditions should be avoided to prevent damage to the leather pelt.
Small stains and light soiling can be spot cleaned with a clean damp cloth and light wool detergent. Our sheepskins may be hand or machine washed in cool water (35 C) using wool approved detergent and gentle wool cycle. Adding a teaspoon of glycerine to the water is recommended as this may help to keep the back of the sheepskin rug supple, otherwise you will find the skin can dry out and go hard.
After washing the natural wool may revert back to its curly state, but brushing with either a wire wool comb or brush while wet and after drying will help restore the fluffy appearance and loft of the fibres. Leave to dry naturally, away from direct heat and sunlight.
Please note: Machine or hand washing may affect the appearance of the natural wool fibres and the leather pelt, therefore washing your sheepskin is done so entirely at your own risk.
